Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation have well-established economic ties since the Soviet Union. In this regard, international cargo transportation is considered well-developed.

The peculiarities of transportation to Kyrgyzstan are related to the country’s location. The territory of Kyrgyzstan is predominantly mountainous – in fact, the country is located between two mountain systems. This makes it quite difficult to construct railroads – as a result, the railroad system of Kyrgyzstan consists of several unrelated branches. The longest one is in the north, while the other two are in the southwest of the country.

It is for this reason that all transportation to Kyrgyzstan is carried out exclusively via motorways, which are connected and comprise a unified well-developed network. However, due to the fact that there is no common border between the states, transportation to Kyrgyzstan is carried out through the territory of Kazakhstan and sometimes Uzbekistan.
